About me

My name is Karen Marie Smith and I am an artist striving to "draw in the Light"; my higher purpose, so to speak.  Art is a passion of mine and my goal is to share this Light through my work.  Being able to capture an expression of love and joy through my artwork, brings me great joy.  Bringing tears of happiness to the recipient of my sketches, makes me even happier.  I have decided to use my drawing abilities to bring joy to others while raising money for an amazing cause. Knowing that my work is helping rescue children who have no joy, is the best feeling in the world.

I was inspired by Operation Underground Railroad's, O.U.R, video "Finding Light in the Darkness". Operation Underground Railroad is a non-profit organization that rescues children from human trafficking.  You can check out their films at ourfilm.org to learn more about them.

I am currently doing pencil sketch portraits for individuals, in exchange for contributions made to Operation Underground Railroad.  To receive a sketch, simply submit a photo via email; make a donation, (I am asking $30 per face - limit 3 faces per page); and email me a postage paid self-addressed mailing label, to receive your 8 1/2" x 11" original, hand-drawn and signed pencil sketch.  That's it!

You can email me a photo first to verify that it would make a good sketch. (No professional photos without written authorization from photographer please.)  I am not accepting ANY money. You will make the donation to O.U.R. directly, and make your payment for the mailing label directly to USPS. Less paperwork for me, the more time I have to "draw in the Light".   The link to my fund-raising page is https://my.ourrescue.org/fundraisers/drawing-in-the-light.  You can select a "one time contribution" for your sketch(es), or become a regular donor!

I usually spend about 5 hours on a face, whether it's a human face or animal face.  I can typically sketch about 5 faces per week right now, and my goal is to sketch 100 faces each year, raising $3000+ annually, (as well as awareness), for Operation Underground Railroad.  January and February are my best times to sketch, due to my work load being much lighter during these times.  (We have a farm, and my cows don't calve until mid March; so no milking during Jan & Feb!)

Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you and seeing some new “faces” in my inbox soon!
